SHINYA YAMAMOTO
When visiting the oldest house in Japan, Shinya Yamamoto was sitting on the porch doing nothing then suddenly noticed water dropping from the thatched roof. In the first multimedia versions of this image, colour and sound were included only for Yamamoto to remove them in later versions. "Most people, when they see an image unconsciously think that they will hear audio as well. For this work I turned that awareness around - after a while you begin hearing sound."
Born in 1978, Yamamoto graduated from Kobe Art College in 2000 and joined the Tokyo Great Visual design group only to leave in 2003 to concentrate on independent projects. "The web has a unique way of stimulating the creation of works: one of which is that you can keep changing them to match the image you want to create. You can continue to add or subtract content indefinitely instead of saying: "Okay. It is complete."
