Playing with LeCielEstBleu's photo-realistic horses or giraffes by twisting them into bizarre shapes at surreal speed is so enjoyable that it is easy to overlook the ingenuity of the interactive tools on the site. By combining photography with highly textured illustrations LeCielEstBleu imbues its digital images with unusual depth and complexity. This is enhanced by the use of music which is created by real instruments, rather than digitally, and is synchronised with the programming to enrich the interactive experience.

Based in Paris LeCielEstBleu was founded in 2000 by Frederic Durieu, a Belgian-born digital artist who originally trained as an engineer with the US-born creative director Kristine Malden and the French musician Jean-Jacques Birge. Together they work on commercial multimedia projects and develop experimental pieces - such as the ongoing Puppet Tools series - to post on the LeCielEstBleu site.
