Finalist: Rachel Taylor (16), from Southampton

Detail of the pattern on Rachel's vibrant dress

Matthew Williamson commented: "There’s a lot going for this design. Love the research! An interesting take on the brief."

Rachel says of her design, "The pattern on the garment was inspired by the elaborate and intricate tiling found on the outside and inside of many Mexican churches and cathedrals. The colours I have used are mainly primary, which reflect the colours used in traditional Mexican folk art and show the vibrancy of the culture and its traditions as a whole. In terms of the shape and cut of the dress, I was influenced more by modern trends of recent summer collections."
