To celebrate Matthew Williamson: 10 Years in Fashion BBC Blast in partnership with the Design Museum organised a design competition, judged by Matthew Wiliamson

Wannabe fashion designers aged 13-19 were invited to respond to the brief below. The winning designer chosen by Matthew Williamson will spend a day with the Matthew at his studios in London.

The task
Design a dress that draws inspiration from the theme ‘Mexico’. Additionally, design one or two extra garments or accessories such as hats, bags or shoes.

Judging criteria
Evidence of research around the theme ‘Mexico’.
Awareness of Matthew’s distinctive style and of current fashion trends.
Flair, creativity and originality in the designs.

The prize
Five finalists were selected and invited to a finalist's day event at the Design Museum on Saturday 26 January 2008. Their creations were exhibited for the day in the Design Museum Riverside Space. The finalists received Design Museum and Blast goodie bags and free tickets to the exhibition. The winner will be given an exclusive tour of Matthew Williamson's studio.
